Wallace Cleaver – merci

Honestly, what can I say about Wallace Cleaver? I had already reviewed his 2023 project Baiser, but I truly believe this new release marks a major step up from the last one.

The same themes and overall vibe are still present—which is a strong point, as it clearly defines Wallace Cleaver’s universe. However, this time around, there’s a noticeable improvement, especially in the maturity and depth with which he approaches his writing and subjects.

We sense someone who’s endured a lot of pain, but who is now becoming aware of it and healing, with clearer, more thoughtful ideas.

From a rap perspective, he’s leveled up too. The messages come through more naturally and with greater emotional weight, grabbing the listener and drawing out deep feelings of melancholy.

I especially loved the tracks Être moi, Sln Vie, and Plus rien n’est grave. But the one that moved me the most, thanks to its writing and the way it perfectly captures the spirit of the project, is without a doubt the outro, Marcel.
